Summer 2009 Camp Schedule

International “Street Food Fair”

Session I:
June 15–19, for campers ages 9–12

Session II:
June 22–26, for campers age 13–17

Camp hours:
9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Additional daily care is available from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Cost:
$500, second camper from the same family $475. Additional daily care: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. - $20; 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. block $40; 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. $30.

Are you feeling adventurous? Do you have an appetite for the unique? Street foods convey cultural passions- simple, fun and delicious. The common taco truck here is an unfamiliar delicacy in other parts of the world, just as takoyaki, pierogies, bratwurst, shawarma, papadum, pho, bao, etc... are on the streets of our home towns in the USA. This dynamic week will feature some of our favorite foods from around the world, in their healthiest versions! Participants will develop culinary skills while gaining a taste for interesting spices, ingredients and flavors. We will be preparing breakfast and lunch daily and the camp will culminate in a "Street Food Fair" to which families are invited.

Session III:
July 6–17, for campers age 13–17

Session IV:
July 27–Aug 7, for campers age 13–17

Camp hours:
9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday for two weeks. Additional daily care is available from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Cost:
$1050, second camper from the same family $975. Additional daily care: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.- $20; 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. block- $40; 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.- $30.

Are you a “Top Chef” fan? Can’t get enough of the Food Network? Want to try starring in (creating, directing and producing) your very own cooking show? Then this camp is for you. COOKS Live! is an exciting camp that will culminate in the production of a live cooking show, to be performed in front of a family audience on the final Friday of the camp. The first week of COOKS Live! will be devoted to learning culinary skills. This will include (but not be limited to) kitchen safety and nutrition, developing your palate, basic culinary processes, knife skills, meal planning, shopping skills and teamwork. We will be preparing breakfast and lunch daily. During the second week we will create our live show, while continuing to build on the participants’ skills and culinary repertoire and, of course, cooking daily meals. Campers will gain confidence in the kitchen, develop a love for cooking and to have a lot of fun.

We already have a line-up of local chefs and culinary professionals who are ready to devote a few hours of their time to working with our campers and sharing their knowledge and experience with us. Community Service!
We are proud to offer the campers in our two-week camps a day of community service, as we cook a meal for the seniors at the Emeryville Senior Center. This will be an excellent opportunity for the campers to put into practice some of their new skills, as well as experiencing the joys of feeding people.

Artistic Collaborations!
We are presently in conversation with students from Ex’pression College for digital arts about a possible video project collaboration with our COOKS Live! camps. Stay tuned for updates …

General Deliciousness!
We can’t say enough about our love for food, stories, people and how they all tie together. All the sessions of COOK! Creative Culinary Camp will be full of opportunity and delicious food. We are certain the experience will be enriching for everyone.

* Guest chefs and other VIP visitors will be scheduled throughout the summer, i.e. each camp will have different guests visitors.
